Seriously how can a person go from being so happy one day, to almost seeing the world come crashing down around you a few days later ? Last Thursday I became a Grandfather again (second one). My son and his wife had a beautiful baby girl. What a joy. Such incredible peace and happiness just sitting with them and enjoying the new life they just brought into the world. Watching my wife with the baby, and all the other family members just sharing stories, tips, advice and such was amazing. Seeing me three year old grandson hugging his new cousin... how could things get any better.
Then Monday my wife go for a colonoscopy and the Doctor tells us she has cancer. They found a mass in her ascending colon. Now she sees a surgeon Thursday to discuss options. They say they caught it early, because she hadn't developed any symptoms yet, so hopefully the mass hasn't spread. Best case scenario... it didn't spread, they remove a small part of her colon and its done.
I say best case scenario...they didn't find anything and life goes on as normal...BUT NOOOOO!!!
You always hear the word cancer, but it never think anything of it until they say you or yours has it, then its like someone dropped a load of bricks on you. It literally knocked the wind out of me. It was almost like we were in shock.
We left the office stunned. I knew I couldn't go to work that night. One I couldn't leave her home alone that night, and two there was no way I'd be able to keep my mind on work. I called in and as soon as I started to tell them why I wasn't coming in I started to lose it. A 52 year old man crying like a little girl in the parking lot, unable to finish the sentence after the c-word escaped my lips.
We went from tears of joy to tears of fear and dread in a matter of days. Hopefully better news will be coming soon.
Sorry if this brings anyone down, but I just had to get it off my chest.
Like I said earlier...WTF?
Yhanks for listening
